Kazakhstan plans to increase the annual volume of oil supplies through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline from 1.5 million tons to 20 million tons. The volume of supplies through the pipeline can increase more than 13 times. This is what Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliev said, the Kazakh publication Kursiv reports.

According to the minister, this year Kazakhstan will export 68.8 million tons of oil, including 55.4 million tons through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) pipeline to the Russian Black Sea port of Novorossiysk.

Reuters news agency states that increasing oil transit through BDT will allow Kazakhstan to cut more than 80% of supplies currently passing through Russia.

To diversify oil export routes, Kazakhstan started issuing BTC last year. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan and KazMunayGas signed an agreement to transport 1.5 million tons of Kazakh oil per year along this highway. Exports began in April 2023.
