According to three sources close to Gazprom and OMV, the Austrian company confiscated gas supplies in October worth 230 million euros.
According to a source close to Gazprom, this is the first time that a client from the European Union has not paid for gas.
A source close to OMV said the company is considering receiving gas supplies in October from Gazprom as the last chance to receive funds under the arbitration award if Ukraine stops Russian gas transit in January.
The Russian monopolist regarded the gas confiscation as non-payment and therefore stopped supplies.
Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer assured that after the cessation of gas supplies by Gazprom, the country will not be left without blue fuel during the heating season.
OMV is one of the few buyers of Russian gas in Europe after Gazprom lost almost all of its customers following Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
We remind you that on October 13, the company announced that it won an arbitration against Gazprom for 230 million euros related to irregular supplies to its German division. On November 16, Gazprom suspended supplies of OMV blue fuel.
