We are talking about real estate and other assets of Russia, estimated at tens of millions of dollars.
The District Court of Helsinki granted the NAC’s request Naftogaz of Ukraine and five other group companies and seized some Russian-owned assets in Finland. The NAC press service reported this on Monday.
It is implied that we are talking about real estate and other assets worth tens of millions of dollars.
“This decision is part of a global strategy Naftogaz to collect compensation for the damage caused by the seizure of the assets of the group companies in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in accordance with the decision of the Hague Arbitration,” the statement said.
SA Naftogaz clarified that this is also the first known successful seizure of assets outside of Ukraine as a result of an arbitration award in cases of claims by Ukrainian companies to Russia over the seizure of property in Crimea in 2014.
In this case, the decision is an intermediate step towards the actual recovery of assets in favor of Naftogaz. At the same time, the interest provided for non-payment of funds pursuant to the arbitration award shall continue to accrue until the compensation is fully paid.
We remind you that in June 2023 Naftogaz appealed to a US court to recover $5 billion from Russia to comply with the arbitration award in The Hague. Then in Russian Gazprom threatened Naftogaz sanctions by courts of arbitration.
