By the end of 2023, Samsung employs 267,800 people, most of them (147,000 employees) working overseas.
South Korean electronics manufacturer Samsung Electronics plans to cut up to 30% of its foreign workers in some divisions. Reuters wrote this on Wednesday, September 11, citing sources of knowledge.
According to the agency, Samsung has ordered its subsidiaries around the world to cut sales and marketing staff by about 15% and administrative staff by up to 30%.
The plan will be implemented before the end of this year and will affect jobs in the Americas, Europe, Asia and Africa.
“It is not yet known how many people will be laid off and which countries and business units will suffer the most,” the agency said.
Samsung noted that workforce adjustments at some overseas factories are routine work aimed at improving efficiency.
At the same time, one of the Reuters sources said that the job cuts are taking place in preparation for a decrease in global demand for technology products amid a slowdown in the global economy.
It will be remembered that in the first quarter of 2024, the South Korean giant Samsung has become the largest smartphone supplier in the world.
