US President Joe Biden in June presented a three-phase Israeli proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of all hostages.
Hamas said its negotiators confirmed their readiness for an “immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip” based on an initial US proposal with no new conditions from either side. Reuters reported this on Wednesday.
As the agency points out, the negotiations have not yet reached an agreement to end the 11-month conflict.
“Among the unresolved issues is the control of the Philadelphia corridor on the Gaza-Egypt border,” the journalists pointed out.
CIA Director William Burns, the US’s chief negotiator in Gaza, said a more detailed cease-fire proposal would be presented in the coming days.
US President Joe Biden’s previous proposal in June called for a three-phase ceasefire in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages.
The Israeli military found the bodies of six hostages taken by Hamas militants in tunnels under the Gaza Strip in October 2023.
