Bloomberg said Everest Energy’s final destination is unknown, but it could be a storage facility in Kamchatka or a terminal in Asia.
A licensed Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) export plant is being shipped to Asia for the first time. Moscow continues to look for customers willing to buy fuel that bypasses American restrictions, Bloomberg news agency reports.
The Everest Energy vessel picked up cargo from the Arctic LNG 2 plant in northeastern Russia over the weekend and is now on its way to Asia via the northern sea route.
It is dangerous for a traditional LNG ship without ice breaking equipment to cross the Arctic trade route, which is completely frozen in winter in the northern hemisphere. But it illustrates the lengths Russia is willing to go to expand gas supplies, despite US restrictions on the plant and accompanying vessels in an attempt to shut down the facility.
The final destination of Everest Energy is unknown. The ship can deliver gas to the Koryak fuel storage facility in Kamchatka or to an import terminal in Asia.
