The new coins were in circulation in parallel with the kopecks. This, among other things, will avoid additional disposal costs.
There are no additional costs for the development of sketches and printing measures either from the state budget or from the budget of the National Bank of Ukraine. NBU head Andriy Pyshny announced this on Facebook on Tuesday, September 3.
“New coins will be in circulation in parallel with kopecks. And it will also avoid additional costs for recycling kopecks and taking steps to replace them,” assured the head of the regulator.
Pyshny emphasized that the de-Russification in the sphere of monetary circulation is part of the big changes taking place in the country, removing the influence of Russia.
We remind you that the National Bank proposes to change the name of small change coins from “kopeck” to “step”. As the NBU explained, it is necessary to restore historical justice, de-Russification and revive national traditions.
The news about changing the names of small change coins from “kopeck” to “shag” sparked discussions on the Internet. Ukrainians both supported this decision and did not understand its appropriateness.
Previously, the National Bank of Ukraine set a limit of 150 thousand hryvnias per month for transfers from individuals “from card to card”.
