The main reason for the increase in the price of tomatoes, according to market analysts, is a rather sharp reduction in the supply of these products to Ukrainian farms.
The plants are ready to send tomatoes to the greenhouse for at least 35-50 UAH/kg, which is, on average, 13% more expensive than at the end of the last working week. This is confirmed by data from the EastFruit project.
The current prices for tomatoes are the highest in Ukraine, at least in the last seven years.
The main reason for the increase in the price of tomatoes, according to market analysts, is a rather sharp reduction in the supply of these products to Ukrainian farms.
Due to the extreme heat, many producers lost part of their harvest, because under the abnormal weather conditions in July of this year, even the protected soil did not guarantee the full planned harvest. In addition, farmers in Ukraine lost a large part of their tomato harvest on the ground, in some of them the losses were estimated at 100%.
At the same time, the demand for greenhouse vegetables from both wholesale companies and retail chains is relatively high, which also contributes to the increase in prices.
We previously reported that prices for watermelons in Ukraine have decreased by a third.
