China has launched an anti-subsidy probe into dairy imports from the European Union, the latest step in a trade dispute between the two sides. Bloomberg wrote this on Wednesday, August 21.
The investigation aims to examine possible subsidies for EU dairy products.
China’s Ministry of Commerce said the probe will cover 20 subsidy programs, including some under the Common Agricultural Policy and those available to the dairy sectors in Italy and Finland.
The investigation is expected to continue for up to a year, with a possible extension of another six months if necessary.
Although China imports dairy products from the EU, New Zealand remains the main supplier.
Let’s recall that earlier the European Commission (EC) announced the introduction of countervailing duties on the import of electric vehicles from China. The measures were taken due to the disruption of competitive conditions in the market as a result of significant government subsidies for the industry in China.
