The impact of heat will be more significant in the last group of grains – corn, soybeans and sunflowers, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
Abnormal heat in Ukraine will reduce the yield of early crops by 5%, and late crops may lose up to 15%. Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy Taras Vysotsky said this in a telethon on Monday, July 29.
According to him, the harvest of early crops of grains, wheat and barley and others is now being completed, and “such usual high temperatures have caused plant stress and cannot be ignored.”
“Here is the influence of heat… The southeastern regions suffered 10-15%, the yield decreased But in the central and northern regions, on the contrary, it was higher, so the average figure for the country will be about 5%,” said Vysotsky.
At the same time, the impact on the last group of grains – corn, soybeans and sunflowers – will be more significant.
“It seems preliminary that in most regions, not all, yields will be reduced. Now it looks like it will be 15% lower,” the official said.
Earlier in July, a heat record was set in Ukraine. The air temperature in some regions exceeded 40 degrees.
It is also reported that half of the first grain crops have already been harvested in Ukraine. In total, the harvest of these crops is expected to reach 27 million tons.
