The heat will not allow for record harvests of corn and sunflower, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
The abnormal heat in Ukraine affects the early grain harvest, but it is not critical. At the same time, this weather is dangerous for late grains, sunflowers and soybeans. Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Taras Vysotsky said this in a telethon on Saturday, July 13.
“For these crops (early grains – ed.) there is also a certain effect of heat, but it is not critical. And from the point of harvest, there are even favorable conditions,” said the official and clarified that we are talking about. about wheat, barley, oats, peas, rye and rapeseed.
According to him, these crops are now actively collected. The average yield for these early crops is 37 c/ha.
“It will still grow, because the southern and central regions will harvest first. Then the western and northern regions will be included in the harvest.”
In the Odessa, Nikolaev, Kirovograd, and Dnepropetrovsk regions, more than 1 million tons have been threshed in each of these regions.
“At the moment, the average yield of early crops is expected to be fixed at about 45-48 c/ha,” said Vysotsky and added that the production of 27 million tons is expected for the early grain group.
As for the late crops, the official said that the magnitude of the negative impact of the heat will depend on the weather in the following weeks, as this is the peak of flowering, pollination of the respective crops and their growth.
“But right now, this heat really won’t allow us to collect record numbers for corn and sunflower,” he said.
Let’s remember that on the third ten days of June in Ukraine they began to harvest grain crops. This process was accompanied by shelling of Russia, burning the entire fields.
