Business and government should work together to develop rules for importing electricity and modernizing infrastructure, industrialists believe.
The initiative of the Cabinet of Ministers regarding the non-application of closing schedules to businesses that import 80% of their electricity consumption may have significant consequences for their work. This was said by the President of the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs Anatoly Kinakh in a commentary for the Ministry of Industry.
According to him, businesses that cannot import electricity will not be protected from forced closures, which will have a negative impact on production processes.
“In addition, electricity imports may be more expensive than domestic supplies, businesses may face higher costs, which will negatively affect their competitiveness and financial stability,” said Kinakh.
Therefore, according to him, the position of the USPP is to prepare, together with the government, energy producing companies, business associations, experts and specialized institutions, a program to attract investments for the modernization of infrastructure of energy, which will have a positive impact on the energy sector of Ukraine in the long term.
As you know, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted amendments to the resolution stating that any industrial facility must import 80% of the electricity for its needs. Ukrenergo, for its part, guarantees the industry another 20%. Meanwhile, business representatives called on the authorities to reconsider this decision.
We remind you that from June 1, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers significantly increased electricity bills for the population – up to 4.32 UAH/kWh. At the same time, Ukraine increased the maximum price of electricity for businesses.
