Russian citizens, father and son, killed a woman to claim her property on a massive scale.
As part of a joint investigative team of law enforcement officers from Ukraine and Latvia, two Russian citizens – a father and son – were convicted of the brutal murder of a woman. This was reported by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General on Tuesday, June 4.
They were found guilty of the illegal abduction and imprisonment of a businessman – a citizen of Belarus, his subsequent murder, as well as an attempt to seize the victim’s property on a particularly large scale.
The district court of the Vidzeme suburb of Riga sentenced them both to 20 years in prison and deportation to Russia after they were served.
According to investigators, the woman is the owner of a residential complex worth more than 4 million euros on the beach in the resort town of Saulkrasti in Latvia. We are talking about more than 30 apartments, parking lots and other infrastructural facilities that he has rented.
The victim disappeared in the fall of 2019. He was last seen with a “client” – a citizen of Ukraine, who was part of an organized criminal group and acted on the instructions of the convicts. He said he came to inspect the property.
It was established that the organizers of the criminal group – two Russian citizens, father and son, who settled in Latvia as refugees – decided to take possession of its property. To do this, they invited three acquaintances of Ukrainian citizens who came to Latvia specially.
Posing as potential clients, the group members lured the woman out of the housing complex, dragged her into a car and drove her out of the city. There they used torture and intimidation to force him to sign over the property in their favor, and when he refused, they killed him.
To solve the crime, an international investigative and operational group of Ukrainian and Latvian police was created. Currently, a pre-trial investigation is ongoing in Ukraine against two members of a criminal group among Ukrainians. One of the suspects is in custody.
Let’s recall that the court previously convicted a Russian serviceman guilty of raping a resident of Kherson and sentenced him to 11 years in prison.
