Over a million establishments and local residents were registered nationally in the V National Economic Census (CENEC) of the National Institute for Statistics and Informatics (INEI).
Of these, 67% do commercial activity28.6% carry out activities in the service sector and 4.4% carry out production activities.
In the case of commercial premises alone, three out of ten establishments were found to be warehouses, 24% were restaurants, and another 21% were clothing manufacturing.
In total, INEI indicates that more than 818 thousand establishments visited are working, and about 200,000 are closed temporarily, permanently or empty.
The survey data also shows that 13% of the assessed premises were not working in 2020, and 61.2% of the enterprises were partially working.
In that first year of the pandemic, seven out of ten trading companies reported that they did not operate as usual, the same happened with 80.1% of manufacturing companies and with 78.2% of enterprises in the service category.
Most of them are micro-enterprises
INEI’s preliminary survey shows that 96.5% of the registered premises are in the micro-enterprise group, i.e. about 9 out of 10 establishments are micro-enterprises.
Similarly, 2.8% are considered small companies0.2% are medium-sized companies and only 0.5% of the total number of registered persons fall into the category of large companies.
