The official rate is approaching the average annual rate laid out in the state budget for 2024 – 40.7 UAH/$1.
The official dollar and euro exchange rates have updated historical records against the hryvnia. The National Bank of Ukraine raised the dollar exchange rate above 40 hryvnia for the first time, according to data on the regulator’s website on Friday, May 24.
The official dollar exchange rate for Monday is set at UAH 40.1153 (+0.1948 UAH). The previous high was recorded just one day ago – 39.9205.
In turn, the euro is worth 43.491 UAH (+0.1773 UAH). This is also a new high. The former was reached the previous day – 43.3137.
Today in the interbank market, the American currency rose in price by 19 kopecks, at 40.15-40.18 UAH/dollar (buying and selling) compared to the previous day’s close.
Meanwhile, in the cash market, the dollar exchange rate increased by 10 kopecks to 40.25 UAH/dollar.
According to Interfax-Ukraine, since the beginning of 2024, the official exchange rate of the hryvnia has fallen by 5.6% against the dollar, or by UAH 2.11. And since the transition of the National Bank to the managed flexibility mode on October 3, 2023 – by 9.7%, or by UAH 3.55.
Thus, the official rate is closer to the average annual rate set in the state budget for 2024 – 40.7 UAH/$1.
Earlier, the NBU explained the increase in the dollar exchange rate due to the restoration of international aid to Ukraine. This influenced the increase in budget expenditures.
And the Verkhovna Rada believes that the decrease in the hryvnia corresponds to the planned indicators included in the state budget of Ukraine.
