All possible tools have been used to fill the power shortage, and the only thing that can improve the situation is frugal consumption.
Imports of electricity from EU countries to Ukraine have almost reached a physical maximum. The head of the board of NEC Ukrenergo, Vladimir Kudrytsky, said this in an interview for RBC-Ukraine, published on Thursday, May 16.
According to him, if in the last days the maximum power imported by Ukraine was more than 1,400 MW per hour, now it is 1,650 MW.
“That is, it is almost the full load of 1,700 MW interstate crossing allowed for imports And it is significant support for the Ukrainian energy system in times of shortage,” said Kudrytsky.
He noted that this was due to a significant increase in consumption against the backdrop of significant damage to power plants in Ukraine as a result of Russian strikes.
Kudrytsky stressed that Ukrenergo has used all possible tools to cover the electricity shortage, and the only thing that can improve the situation is economical consumption.
As is known, as a result of Russian attacks, Ukraine lost 8 GW of generating capacity. Thermal generation was almost destroyed, and hydroelectric power stations were also damaged. In addition, nuclear power plants undergo summer maintenance.
Therefore, in Ukraine they began to limit the supply of electricity, first for businesses at night and at night, and in recent days – for the population. Shutdowns occur on schedule and instantaneously.
Earlier, the Ministry of Energy warned Ukrainians about a difficult winter. In the past few months, the Ukrainian energy grid has experienced the worst destruction since the start of a full-scale war.
