Ukraine needs the supply of air defense systems, because soon there will be nothing to return, noted Maxim Timchenko.
As a result of the latest massive attack by Russian aggressors in Ukraine, the most difficult situation has appeared in the energy sector since the beginning of the full-scale aggression. DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko said this in an interview with the American television channel CNN on Tuesday, April 16.
“Three weeks ago, we experienced the biggest attack on our energy supply infrastructure and the scale of the destruction,” he said.
The head of the energy holding emphasized that the main problem today is the lack of a sufficient number of air defense systems.
“And this is the main problem. We can restore power plants, bring additional equipment, but we don’t know what will happen the next day,” Timchenko emphasized.
He added that the situation is more or less stable due to the warm weather and electricity imports from Europe, but when the summer heat starts, the shortage in the energy system may increase.
“We have nothing to turn back soon. The country needs the supply of air defense systems to protect civilian infrastructure and the population,” concluded Timchenko.
Earlier on Tuesday, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that on April 11, the Russians destroyed the Trypilska thermal power plant in the Kyiv region because the Ukrainian military ran out of missiles to protect it.
The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that it is cheaper to give Ukraine Patriot complexes than to later restore the destroyed thermal power plant.
