For almost a year, Ukraine has not been able to export wheat, sunflower, corn and rapeseed to neighboring EU countries, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Policy said.
Exports of Ukrainian agricultural products to the EU fell to the 2022 level of less than 1 million tons per month, and in September last year exceeded 4 million tons. The Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Nikolai Solsky announced this at a meeting of the EU Council on Agriculture and Fisheries, writes the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
The minister noted that Ukraine has not been able to export wheat, sunflower, corn and rapeseed to neighboring EU countries for almost a year.
As reported by Solsky, since the beginning of the year, Ukraine exported 17 million tons of agricultural products, of which about 12 million tons passed through the ports of Greater Odessa, another almost 3 million tons in the Danube ports, and only 2 million. tons by land transport.
“We bring in transit through Poland in a month in the same amount as we export through the ports of Ukraine in a day,” added the minister.
Solsky also assured that the export of Ukrainian agricultural products does not have a negative impact on the EU markets, and sometimes plays a role in stabilizing the price balance.
He added that the share of Ukrainian poultry meat and eggs in the total consumption of the EU is less than 2% and 1% respectively, and the price of sugar in the EU is still higher than it was before the full-scale invasion, and if Ukrainian sugar is taken from the market, the price in the EU will grow further.
The minister emphasized that Ukraine is striving for free trade with the EU on a competitive market basis.
“Any restrictions only weaken Ukraine economically and directly eliminate the main goal – our common victory over Russia in this war,” Solsky emphasized.
It was previously reported that the volume of foreign trade in Ukraine has increased. Ukraine exported the most to Poland – $649 million, Spain – $624 million, China – $504 million.
