Within two to three weeks, it is planned to resume container transportation along the sea corridor.
The Ukrainian sea corridor began operating around the clock last week. The Navy has given the appropriate approval. This was said by the Deputy Minister of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Yuri Vaskov, reports Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday, March 14th.
“The corridor still has (potential) for at least a 20% increase in volumes,” he said at a round table dedicated to Ukrainian exports.
The official also said that they plan to resume container transportation along the sea corridor for two to three weeks.
“All five container terminals are ready to handle (containers, – ed.). Almost all of them are involved in the transshipment of agricultural and other products. But containers are a priority and they negotiate. I hope that in two to three weeks we will receive the first calls (of the vessels, – edit.),” said Vaskov.
In addition, the Ministry of Reconstruction expects to restore the car ferry service within two weeks, and within two months – train ferry service.
Vaskov recalled that in February the corridor reached a record volume of transport – 8 million tons, of which 60-65% were agricultural products, and the remaining goods were ore, metal and imported goods fertilizer.
The corridor is now running at the same speed as in February as the weather was not favorable last week, the official said.
In total, since the start of the operation of the Ukrainian sea corridor, more than a thousand ships have passed through it, carrying almost 31 million tons of cargo.
