Compared to the 30% loss of territory, economy, and GDP, these are relatively small numbers, but they are growth numbers, the head of government said.
Over the past year, GDP in Ukraine grew by 5.6%; in 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers expects 5% growth. Prime Minister Denis Shmygal announced this in a press conference on Monday, March 4.
“We had 5.6% GDP growth last year. We expect up to 5% growth this year. Of course, compared to the 30% loss of territory, economy, GDP, these are relatively small numbers, but it is growth numbers. It helps us with the funding of the army and all the social payments,” he said.
Shmygal recalled that the state budget provides for UAH 1.7 trillion for the army in 2024, which is half of the costs that Ukraine should provide with internal resources. The rest of the costs are covered thanks to the help of our partners.
“Therefore, our task is to optimize our economy in such a way that the state budget grows and the GDP grows. Last year we received more taxes than we expected, for which I thank our business,” the prime minister said.
We remind you that at the end of January of the new year, the Ukrainian economy grew by 3.5% compared to January 2023. In the first month of the new year, all major sectors of the economy showed positive dynamics.
