The press service of the Kyiv police reported this today, March 4.
It is noted that during the implementation of operational information, employees of the criminal investigation department of the capital’s headquarters and the Darnytsia police department exposed two local residents of committing theft from a pet store.
The two men “specialized” in stealing from apartments and shops. They were exposed and detained by operatives of the criminal investigation department of the Kyiv police, the report says. — During the arrest, one of the defendants tried to blow up the police with a grenade. Law enforcement officers detained the attacker and intercepted the ammunition.
It is noted that:
- the attackers used a crowbar to open the front door, damage the CCTV cameras in the room, and then stole a laptop, construction tools, and pet supplies;
- they loaded the stolen goods into a vehicle and tried to drive away, but the police caught up with them;
- The 36-year-old driver was detained at the car, and his 37-year-old partner began to resist and, threatening the law enforcement officers with a knife, took a live grenade from his pocket and pulled out the ring; Thanks to the coordinated actions of criminal investigation operatives, the ammunition was intercepted and discharged, and the attacker was detained.
It was established that the accomplices had previously been prosecuted for similar crimes, in addition, one of them is accused of committing burglary, and his case is still being heard in court, the police note.
The defendants were informed of suspicion under part four of Article 185 – theft combined with penetration and committed under martial law.
In addition, the offender who threatened the police with a grenade was informed of suspicion under the first part of Article 263 – illegal handling of weapons and ammunition, and under Article 348 – an attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment, the police said.
