The EU will tighten export controls on Ukrainian grains to calm farmers’ concerns.
The European Union, against the backdrop of protests from farmers, will tighten the verification of compliance with agreements when importing grain from Ukraine. This is what the European Commissioner for Transport, Adina Valean, said, Reuters reports.
“Closing borders is never a good idea, especially borders with a neighbor who needs communication. As long as the agreements are implemented correctly, there should be no problems, and we are working to strengthen the implementation ,” he says.

Valean emphasized that the EU must ensure that carriers do not violate the agreement and their right to transit.
The European Commissioner emphasized that EU countries will also benefit from trade with Ukraine. Exports by road from Poland, Romania and Slovakia increased by double digits, exceeding the growth of goods entering these countries.
He added that this “suggests that neighboring countries are also receiving favorable exchanges.”
Valean noted that in January of this year, 3 million tons of Ukrainian grain passed through transit, 2.04 million of which passed through Romania.
Since the establishment of the solidarity corridors in May 2022, Ukraine has exported a total of 64 million tons of grain, oilseeds and related products through them.
We remind you that Polish farmers have been blocking the Ukrainian border for several weeks. They do not allow trucks to pass through the checkpoint, and also destroy Ukrainian agricultural products.
