“The bulk carrier Sky Gate is moving along the Ukrainian corridor with 25 thousand tons of Ukrainian humanitarian wheat for Nigeria. This is the first ship this year with humanitarian wheat chartered by the UN World Food Program as part of the Grain From program Ukraine,” the message said.
The Grain From Ukraine program was initiated by President Vladimir Zelensky in November 2022 and is implemented jointly with the UN World Food Program and donor countries. In the first year, the program sent 170 thousand tons of humanitarian wheat to Ethiopia, Yemen, Somalia, Kenya and Afghanistan.
The department also recalls that at the second international summit Grain From Ukraine, held in Kyiv on November 25, 2023, more than $100 million was raised to continue the humanitarian program for countries suffering the most from food shortages.
Let’s recall that over the past six months, Ukraine has exported 20 million tons of cargo by sea through a new Black Sea corridor. During this period, 661 ships from Greater Odessa ports delivered cargo to 32 countries of the world.
