The football associations of Jordan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE were among 12 countries that signed a letter to FIFA calling for Israel to be removed from international tournaments due to the situation in the Gaza Strip.

The document was sent to all 211 FIFA members and all six confederations.
The general director of the Israeli federation, Niv Goldstein, expressed the hope that FIFA will not follow this call.
Israel began playing international tournaments as a member of the Asian Confederation in 1954, but faced rejection by opponents and was expelled from the AFC in 1974. The country became a full member of UEFA in 1994.
