Tankers La Balena, Nireta and Nellis with approximately 3.2 million barrels on board, currently located near Yeosu port.
14 tankers loaded with 10 million barrels of Russian Sokol crude oil are stuck off the coast of South Korea. They have not been sold due to US sanctions. This was reported by Reuters on Friday, January 26.
Difficulties in selling Sokol oil are one of the most serious problems the Russian Federation has faced since the West imposed sanctions, and one of the most serious disruptions to Russian oil exports in two years .
The United States has said it wants the sanctions to cut profits for the Kremlin and its war machine without disrupting the flow of Russian energy to world markets. Last year, the United States imposed sanctions on several ships and companies involved in transporting the Falcon.
On Friday, January 26, 14 ships carrying Falcon cargo were stuck in the South Korean port of Yeosu. The supertankers La Balena, Nireta and Nellis, with about 3.2 million barrels on board, now located near Yeosu, South Korea, serve as floating storage facilities for Russian crude.
The rest of the Falcon, shipped from November to January, is stored in smaller Aframax vessels (capacity 500,000–800,000 barrels).
Falcon deliveries to Indian Oil Corporation have been delayed by payment problems, forcing India’s largest refiner to use its reserves and buy more oil from the Middle East.
The company doesn’t expect to receive any Falcon shipments anytime soon because of disagreements over what currency to use for payment.
As already written, the US Treasury sent letters warning of imprisonment in the case of violation of the price ceiling for Russian oil to 30 companies that control up to hundreds of oil tankers.
