The increase in transportation tariffs will not allow Ukrzaliznytsia to increase cargo traffic, the expert association predicts.
Possible increase in tariffs for the transportation of cargo from abroad Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) would actually end the ferroalloy industry, which was aging during the war. This is what the executive director of the Ukrainian Association of Ferroalloy Producers (UkrFA) Sergei Kudryavtsev said on Wednesday, November 1.
“For our industry, all these decisions on increases are very difficult. Therefore, we will enter the downtime from November 1 – due to electricity prices, tariffs and effects in Nikopol. How much will we be able to return at work in January is still unknown,” said Kudryavtsev.
In his opinion, the increase in transport tariffs will not give Ukrzaliznytsia increased freight traffic. But it could end the ferroalloy industry, which is now in crisis.
“Ukrzaliznytsia we need money, but we also need it. Now the market is going down. With shelling, the cost of electricity increases. And the increase in transportation tariffs will only kill the industry,” Kudryavtsev summarized.
We remind you that information about the intention has recently come out Ukrzaliznytsia increase tariffs for freight transportation by 20%. As of July 2022, the company has already increased tariffs by 70% – this led to an increase in the cost of Ukrainian products and a reduction in enterprise production volumes, even in conditions where exporters do not have alternative routes .
In turn, the business warns Ukrzaliznytsia about the consequences of a possible tariff increase, although the company previously promised not to do so in 2023.
