In the book, released on November 1, 2022, Matthew Perry talks about his childhood, working on the set of the sitcom Friends, and his long-term struggle with alcohol and drug addiction.
Specifically, he said he spent nine million dollars trying to get sober, admitted to attending 6,000 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, going through rehab 15 times and detoxing 65 times.
In addition to revealing the terrible effects of drug and alcohol addiction, which left him with a ruptured colon and a coma, Perry made a chilling statement in the book’s prologue.
“I should be dead,” he wrote. “My mind wants to kill me, and I know it. I am constantly overwhelmed with sadness, melancholy, I cling to the idea that something outside of me will fix me.”
