Budapest proposed to split the proposed EU aid package for Ukraine worth 50 billion euros in half.
Hungary proposed to share the European Union’s aid package to Ukraine in the amount of 50 billion euros, planned to be allocated in the period 2024-2027. Bloomberg reported this, citing sources.
Budapest is concerned that economic support for Kyiv may weaken following the recent decision by the US Congress to reject $6 billion in aid to Ukraine.
It is noted that the Hungarian authorities told the members of the European bloc that at this stage 25 billion euros are enough for Ukraine. In the middle of a certain period it is necessary to determine when Kyiv will receive the remaining amount – depending on the needs of the Ukrainian.
Let’s remember that, according to media reports, the European Commission is preparing to allocate 13 billion euros to Hungary from EU funds that have been frozen due to problems with the rule of law in Budapest. This move could gain Budapest’s support for increasing the bloc’s budget and financial aid to Ukraine.
Previously, the NAPC excluded the Hungarian OTP Bank from the list of international sponsors of the war. The national agency added OTP Bank to the list in May. However, Hungary has said it will continue to block EU military aid to Ukraine until OTP Bank is finally removed from the list of international war sponsors.
