Starshield uses Starlink technology and launches national security support capabilities.
Elon Musk’s SpaceX has signed its first agreement with the US Space Force to provide satellite communications to the military through the Starshield system. Bloomberg writes about it.
Starshield is said to support US national security through satellite-based Earth observation and communications using end-to-end encryption and additional “cryptographic capabilities.”
“It is planned to use satellite communications services in low Earth orbit. The service will be provided using existing satellites of the Starlink network, which will expand its role as a defense contractor,” the publication reports.
The agreement between SpaceX and the US Space Force is for one year. The maximum cost of the contract is $70 million. Also, according to US Air Force spokeswoman Anne Stefanek, the company will be allocated about $15 million by September 30. to fund 54 “mission partners” in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard.
The creation of the Starshield division of SpaceX was recognized in December 2022. As Elon Musk said, the Starshield is based on the Starlink satellite communication system, less than its size. It is assumed that the unit is under the control of the American government.
The EU has published reports on how tech companies including Facebook, Google and TikTok deal with disinformation. American entrepreneur Elon Musk’s Platform X (formerly Twitter) is recognized as Russia’s biggest means of spreading lies and propaganda.
Let’s remember that earlier CNN, citing a new biography of the billionaire, reported that Musk gave the order to disable the Starlink satellite communication network off the coast of Crimea in order to interrupt the attack that Ukraine is preparing against in the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
Musk said the system was not turned on in place, and he rejected Ukraine’s request to activate it to avoid being complicit in an attack on the Russian fleet. The billionaire noted that he does not consider himself a traitor, because “the United States is not at war with Russia.”
