The problem with the commission of banks and exchange offices for accepting supposedly “old” dollars has not yet been resolved.
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy will discuss the currency exchange situation. The meeting will be held on June 5 with the participation of the National Bank and the National Police of Ukraine. This was announced by the head of the committee Daniil Getmantsev on Telegram.
“On Wednesday, we will hear in the committee a report by the NBU and law enforcement officials on correcting the situation in the exchange of “tired” money and the work of black exchangers,” he wrote.
According to Getmantsev, the meeting will be held online.
Recall that in May in Ukraine there was a problem of additional commissions of banks and exchange offices set by them for receiving supposedly worn banknotes or banknotes of previous years of issue.
The NBU has initiated several measures to solve the problem. Specifically, the regulator said it would fine and strip banks and exchange offices of licenses for non-compliance with the requirements.
The National Bank has completely eliminated the human factor by prohibiting banks and non-banking financial institutions from refusing clients to exchange money if the counter or detector at the checkout confirms the authenticity of the banknotes. This means that the cashier cannot “by eye” check the authenticity of the banknotes or their condition and refuse to perform a currency exchange transaction.
The NBU emphasized that it is unacceptable to ask for an additional commission for the exchange of dollars from previous years.
