There are signs that the Russian invaders will still move the fifth unit of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant to a “cold” shutdown.
Energoatom has information about the Russians’ preparation for switching the fifth block of the Zaporizhzhya NPP to the safest mode of operation – a “cold” shutdown. This was said by the head of the company Petr Kotin, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
“ZNPP employees can theoretically start moving block No. 5 to a” cold “stop, but physically they cannot do it, because the situation is controlled by Rashists. , – he said.
According to the president of Energoatom, there is hope that the mission of the IAEA and the direct head of the agency, Rafael Grossi, will be able to convince the occupiers to ensure the transfer of the block to a “cold” closure.
“Cold shutdown itself is the safest state of operation of the power unit under any conditions,” said Kotin.
According to him, the decision of the State Nuclear Regulatory Committee on June 8 to transfer the last of the six ZNPP power units, which were in “hot” shutdown, to a “cold” shutdown was logical after the drop in the level of the Kakhovka reservoir because with the explosion of the Kakhovskaya HPP and the loss of the ability to feed the cooler ZNPP rate.
“Grossi is aware of this problem with the non-cold shutdown. I hope he is there and can influence accordingly. But for now it is not critical. Now I have a more important question: how do we launch it after de-occupation. We have to find the deciding how to provide cooling. This is another difficult challenge,” the minister insisted.
Recall that on the night of June 6, the Russian invaders blew up the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station. The IAEA said the destruction of the hydroelectric dam and the release of water from the Kakhovka reservoir pose a serious threat to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
