This week, FIFA withdrew the host of the Under-17 World Cup from Peru due to delays in the development of the event, but this is not the only loss the country has faced.

According to ESAN University analysis, sport’s event would bring the Peruvian economy about 2 million 400 thousand US dollars.

The calculation was made taking into account the fact that 24 delegations will take part in this event, which assumed the use of hotels, restaurants, air and land transport, etc.

“Each delegation (only players, coaching staff and leaders) should be made up of approximately 50 people, which would result in an arrival and departure tourist services at least 1,200 people for 20 days, which translates into accommodation only, approximately $ 2,400,000,” explained Julio Quispe, professor of administration and finance at ESAN University and an expert in sports management.

It should be borne in mind that these activities not only increase the employment opportunities of tourism services and contribute to the improvement of infrastructure, but also create more jobs.

In addition to this, FIFA now considers Peru to be executing sports eventswhich will affect the designation of future venues and the organization of football-related events.

“These sporting events are not only attractive to football fans, but also generate income for the industry as a whole: foreign fans come to the venue and consume transportation, hotels, restaurants, stadium visits, t-shirts, merchandising, etc. In addition, may be affected and other sports, mainly in the appointment of the organizers of various events,” says Kispe.

The specialist adds that after the social conflicts, Peru was cataloged by some countries as tourist destination dangerous, an image that would be reversed if the sporting event took place.
