The purpose of the plan is to make trips by train competitive with air transportation transportation, speed and cost.
The European Commission in the fall will present a plan for developing high -esteed train transportation in Europe. European Commissioner said for Transport Apostolos Dzijikostas in an interview The Guardian.
The project provides for a “long -term perspective of a more relevant, effective and competitive network” of railroads within the EU.
Dzijikostas emphasized the need to coordinate planning, funding and introducing infrastructure and rotation of stock capable of working “without boundaries”. High metals should compete in the air travel for comfort, speed and cost, he said.
According to the European Commissioner, passengers will choose a train not only because of its kindness, but also for comfort and access.
Various standards of ruts, rolling stocks and alarm systems remain problems, as well as weak coordination between countries. According to surveys, 75% of EU citizens prefer the train if the message between chapters is fast and reliable.
The commission aims to double the volume of high-speed transport by 2030 and Triple-by 2050, creating a network of more than 49 thousand KM, spending 546 billion euros.
Dzijikostas noted that the implementation of the plan requires a coordinated approach to financing: a combination of EU, national investment and private capital. It is also important to unite the rules of operation and provide access to new operators.
He admitted that air transportation is often cheaper and more convenient for passengers, as the railroad sector is not adjusted and requires significant infrastructure investment and stock rotation.
“I am an optimist and love trains,” European commissioner added. – I can imagine the day you could have lunch at Copenhagen, take a train and ride in Prague for dinner. “
Keep in mind that the European Union has invested in the development of Ukraine’s railroad infrastructure as part of the financial instrument of connecting the Europe Facility (CEF) for the development of border boundaries including Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary.
