Ukraine will receive a $2.5 billion grant from the United States from the World Bank’s trust fund. This would be the second US grant planned for 2023 for a total of $9.9 billion, the Treasury said on Wednesday, April 5.
The grant agreement was signed by Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko and World Bank Regional Director for Eastern Europe (Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine) Arup Banerjee.
“The funds will be used to ensure the efficiency of the system of state bodies, education, health care and first responder services, as well as to ensure pension payments and certain state social assistance programs,” said of the statement.
As Marchenko noted, the funds transferred through the World Bank allow the government of Ukraine to “perform the main functions of the state at the right level, as well as solving urgent social issues of supporting the population. “
Recall that on March 30, the state budget of Ukraine received a grant from the United States in the amount of $1.25 billion. Since the beginning of the massive invasion of the Russian Federation, Ukraine has received $15.5 billion in grants from the United States.
It was also reported that the European Union transferred to Ukraine the second tranche of macro-financial assistance for 1.5 billion euros from a package totaling 18 billion euros.
