Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles confirmed that the tanks will be delivered in the second half of April.
Six Leopard 2A4 tanks, promised by Spain in Kyiv, will go to Ukraine in the second half of April. This is what Defense Minister Margarita Robles said on Wednesday, Reuters news agency reports.
The German-made battle tanks have been out of service since the 1990s and have been mothballed as a reserve, requiring refit and combat readiness testing after initial doubts whether they could ever see combat again.
Spain has promised to transfer a total of 10 tanks to Ukraine. Robles noted that the armed forces have already begun to repair the remaining four.
Spain also trained 40 tank crew members and 15 mechanics at a military base in the northeastern city of Zaragoza.
It will be remembered that El Pais previously announced Spain’s plan to transfer six Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine after Easter.
Let’s add that on March 23, the Spanish government announced that it will send Leopard tanks to Ukraine next week – at the end of March or the beginning of April.
