Additional business ownership in Russia is no longer appropriate and does not match McDonald’s values, according to the corporation.
The American corporation McDonald’s announced its departure from the Russian market and began selling its business in the Russian Federation. This was stated in his statement, published on the PR Newswire portal on Monday, May 16th.
“After more than 30 years of operation in this country, McDonald’s Corporation has announced that it is leaving the Russian market and has begun the process of selling its Russian business,” the statement said.
The humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine and the “accelerated unpredictable operating environment” were cited as reasons for this decision.
“Additional business ownership in Russia is no longer appropriate and does not match McDonald’s values,” the corporation believes.
It was noted that the entire portfolio of McDonald’s restaurants will be sold to a Russian buyer. This will prohibit the use of the McDonald’s name, logo, branding and menu.
In turn, TASS, citing a source, reported that McDonald’s will resume work in Russia under a new brand in mid-June, which will retain the team, restaurant chain and menu.
“In fact, only the name will be left,” the source said.
It will be recalled that on March 8, McDonald’s decided to suspend its activities in Russia. Then all 850 restaurants were closed.
On the last day of McDonald’s, Russians lined up in large queues at the establishments.
