The first Kuiper internet test satellite has been sent to Cape Canaveral in Florida. The launch is scheduled for May.
The American company Amazon intends to launch its first Internet satellite Project Kuiper in 2024, as well as begin beta testing of the provision of satellite Internet services. Bloomberg reported this.
Dave Limp, the company’s senior vice president, said the first two Kuiper test satellites were sent to Cape Canaveral in Florida in preparation for a possible launch in May.
At the satellite industry show in Washington DC, he demonstrated various prototype user terminals that could be used to connect to a satellite.
“It’s completely different from anything you’ve ever seen,” Limp said.
Amazon’s smallest model offers speeds of up to 100 megabits per second. The larger, 11-inch square antenna is capable of transmitting 400 megabits per second. And the 19-by-30-inch model can handle 1 gigabit per second.
The company plans to produce an 11-inch square version for less than $400 a unit.
Recall that earlier the Jeff Bezos company received official permission from the US authorities to launch thousands of satellites and create its Kuiper satellite Internet network.
