Skoda said that due to the new Euro-7 environmental standard, it is possible to stop production of three models, two of which are very popular in Europe. This was reported by the Ukrainian publication for Kerm.

According to Yaroslav Povshik, president of the Skoda Workers’ Union, if the Euro-7 eco-standard is implemented in 2026, three main models of the brand, which account for 31% of total sales, will leave the market.

It is mentioned that we are talking about the compact cars Skoda Kamiq, Fabia and Scala, which sold 96,300, 92,700 and 39,500 units respectively last year.

According to Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schaefer, due to strict environmental regulations, a subcompact hatchback in Europe could cost around 3,000-5,000 euros more than it does today.

But it’s not just about money and profit – the phasing out of popular models will lead to a sharp cut in jobs in the automotive industry. Skoda Workers Union President Yaroslav Povshik and his Volkswagen colleague Daniela Cavallo will meet the EU Transport Commission in Brussels in April to discuss their concerns about the situation and try to find an acceptable solution.

Recall that Volkswagen banned Chinese factories from selling cars in Russia.
