The EU has announced details of the 10th package of sanctions against Russia

The new package of sanctions was developed by the European Union on the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The EU Council on Saturday, February 25, adopted the 10th package of sanctions against Russia, which is “another turn of the screw for the Russian government and those responsible for Russia’s aggressive war,” said communiqué.

In the new sanctions, the European Union banned:

  • Citizens of the Russian Federation to manage organizations operating EU critical infrastructure, as well as the use of gas storage facilities in Europe;

  • Broadcasting of the Arabic RT Arabic and Sputnik Arabic services in the EU is prohibited;

  • The export of special equipment, spare parts and electronics to Russia is prohibited;

  • Transit of European dual-use goods and technology through the Russian Federation to avoid sanctions evasion;

  • The import of synthetic rubber and bitumen from Russia is also prohibited.

The 10th package of sanctions tightens export bans on critical technologies and industrial products such as electronics, specialized vehicles, engine parts, spare parts for trucks and jet engines, as well as goods for the construction sector, which can be sent to the Russian military ( antennas, faucets, etc.).

“The list of restricted items that can contribute to the technological improvement of Russia’s defense and security sector will now include additional new electronic components used in Russian weapons systems recovered from the field of war, including drones, missiles, helicopters, as well as in particular rare earth materials , electronic integrated circuits and thermal imaging cameras,” the EU website said.

For the first time, this list includes seven Iranian enterprises that produce unmanned aerial military aircraft used by the Russian army in Ukraine, including against civilian infrastructure.

Additional restrictions have been introduced on the import of goods that, according to the EU, bring significant income to Russia, such as asphalt and synthetic rubber.

In addition to economic sanctions, the Council of the EU decided to list a large number of additional individuals and legal entities (121 individuals). Three Russian banks have been added to the list of those subject to an asset freeze and a ban on providing funds and economic resources.

The new package of sanctions was developed by the European Union on the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Recall that President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine expects decisive measures from Europe against Rosatom and the Russian nuclear industry, increasing pressure on the military and banks.
