The purpose of this proposal is called the assurance of gas supplies to the EU and depriving the Russian Federation of the opportunity to manipulate the market.
The European Union, within the framework of the 10th package of anti-Russian sanctions, introduced a ban on providing citizens and legal entities from the Russian Federation with gas storage facilities in the EU. This was stated in the statement of the Council of the EU, published on Saturday, February 25.
An exception is made for liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure.
It was noted that such a measure would protect the reliability of gas supplies in the European Union and prevent Russian use of gas supplies as a weapon and the risks of market manipulation.
Recall that the EU authorities approved the 10th package of sanctions against Russia. The list included 121 individuals and legal entities, introduced significant import/export restrictions, and banned Russian propaganda media.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine expects decisive measures from Europe against Rosatom and Russia’s nuclear industry, increasing pressure on the military and banks.
