three out of ten markets in Peru reported a drop of more than 60% catering, due to hundreds of blockades caused by the request for an election. Most of these supply centers are located in the south, reports Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).

“They make up 27% of all markets in the main cities of the country, 73% of the remaining markets have a supply of more than 50%, that is, they have a supply that provides food reaches homes, and there are not many complexities with prices,” Cristian Garay Torres, CEO of Statistics, Monitoring and Policy Evaluation – Midagri, told RPP News.

According to the report, the cities that experience these “significant drops” or supply below 40% are Andahuaylas, Puerto Maldonado where they are 30%; in Abancay de ApurimacHuamanga (Ayacucho), Cusco and others.

“There is no influence in the northern and eastern parts locks and its impact on food,” the official warned.

Shortage in Lima

A shortage also occurred in the capital, Lima. Although today the fall was in a smaller percentage, since Monday the situation has persisted. According to the latest report from Midagri, this has driven up S/3 prices.

As of today, Friday, carrots, cassava and peas were up S/0.50, S/0.30 and S/3 more than yesterday. This is due to the low income from agricultural products from central Peru.

“Today, the center’s production has decreased by 13%, about 6,200 tons of deliveries between vegetables and fruits have arrived, and they reach 7,000 tons per day. In the case of the south, this group of regions means only 10%, these fell by 22%,” he explained.

The regions of central Peru such as Junin, Huanuco, Pasco, Ancash, Huancavelica and Lima Centro provide 70% of the food consumed in the capital of Lima, with another 10% coming from the south of the country, in both cases delivering food to those affected by the blockade in Central highway, at the height of La Oroya.
