The Patriot air defense systems are relatively old systems and do not work like the S-300, Vladimir Putin explained.
The head of the Kremlin regime, Vladimir Putin, has promised to “click” the Patriot air defense systems that the United States will transfer to the Ukrainian military. He said this while talking to reporters on Thursday, December 22.
“They said they can put the Patriot there (in Ukraine – ed.). Well, let them put it, we will click on the Patriot too… Those who oppose us proceed from the fact that this is supposedly a defensive weapon. Well, okay, we just have it in our minds. And there will always be an antidote. So those who do this, are doing it in vain. It’s just prolonging the conflict, that’s all,” Putin said.
He also decided to compare the Patriot air defense system with the Russian S-300 system.
“Regarding the Patriot air defense systems, they are quite old systems. And they don’t work like our S-300,” Putin added.
At the same time, the Kremlin leader did not specify that even though the Patriot air defense systems were put into service about 40 years ago, they have been repeatedly upgraded and the current systems are seriously different from their first version.
It will be recalled that on December 21, the United States provided $1.85 billion worth of arms to Ukraine. The new military aid package includes the Patriot air defense system for the first time. The total cost of American military aid to Ukraine under President Biden has reached $21.9 billion.
