Gas turbines and gas piston power plants do not require special human intervention and maintenance.
A network of gas-turbine and gas-piston mini-power plants began to be deployed throughout Ukraine. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
“Gas-turbine and gas-piston mini-power plants are another way. We have Ukrainian-made stations. Moreover, they have been installed, and now they continue their work,” said of the prime minister.
According to him, although they are expensive to produce electricity, they generate electricity very quickly – up to 3 minutes.
Shmygal explained that the nuclear unit, for comparison, accelerates in three days, and turns off in a month and a half, takes from eight to 12 hours to raise the thermal unit from a cold state, and from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours from a warm state.
As the prime minister mentioned, gas turbine and gas piston power plants have small blocks and do not require special human intervention and maintenance. A power plant is designed for an average of 50 MW, but if you put 20 of them in a row, you get 1,000 MW, and this, according to him, is the capacity of a nuclear unit.
Shmyhal added that mini-power plants can be used in large cities to supply water and heat, as well as for the energy security of nuclear generation.
“When the network collapses during a blackout, it becomes unbalanced and everything is turned off, then to raise a nuclear unit, you need 100-150 MW to start its operation. You cannot achieve such power in generators,” he said.
It was previously reported that the power plants will house sensors that detect missiles and drones.
