Vladimir Zelensky said that the next 2023 will be a turning point for Ukraine in the war with the Russian Federation.
The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday, December 21, during his visit to the United States, addressed the representatives of the Congress and Senate of the United States in the Capitol. Zelensky received a standing ovation in Congress.
The Ukrainian leader emphasized in his speech that our country is not destroyed, it lives and is still fighting, despite the full aggression of Russia.
According to him, Russian tyranny has lost control over Ukraine and will never again influence the minds of the Ukrainian people.
“Next year will be a turning point. I know. This is the moment when the courage of Ukraine and the determination of the Americans will ensure the freedom of people who defend their values,” the President of Ukraine insisted.
He noted that the war unleashed by Russia is not just a fight for territory, this or that part of Europe, the freedom and security of Ukrainians or any country that Vladimir Putin wants to conquer.
“This battle will decide what kind of world our children and grandchildren will live in, and their children and grandchildren: will there be democracy for Ukrainians, Americans, for everyone,” said the head of state .
The President also added that the United States has played its role in leading global unity around Ukraine. He noted that American assistance is very important for Ukraine to not only survive, but also to achieve a change on the battlefield.
“If your patriots stop the terror of the Russians against our cities, it will allow our patriots to fully defend our freedom,” Zelensky said.
Zelensky pointed out that Russia, in its attacks on Ukrainian cities, found an ally – Iran.
“Iran has sent hundreds of deadly drones to Russia, they have become a threat to critical infrastructure without shame – one terrorist finds another. It’s only a matter of time before they hit your other allies if not you stop them now,” he added.
He added that before coming to the US, he was on the front line, in eastern Ukraine, in Bakhmut, a city that once had a population of 70,000 and had been under occupation since May.
“The Russians are using everything they can against Bakhmut and against other cities. However, our Defense Forces are holding. And we are all proud of them,” he said.
He noted that the battle for Bakhmut will determine how the war in Ukraine will develop. Therefore, Ukraine needs US military assistance, in particular, Patriot air defense systems.
“We need your help not only to stand up to such battles, but to reverse them. To win the battlefield. We need more artillery next year, guns and ammunition – so that Bakhmut is not only a fortress that crushed the Russian army, and so that – like the battle of Saratoga – the struggle for Bakhmut changed the course of our war for freedom,” he said.
The lack of modern armored vehicles and aviation in the Ukrainian army significantly delayed the war and allowed the invaders to kill civilian Ukrainians.
“The lack of armored vehicles and aviation in our country prolongs this war and allows Russia to kill our people, to keep the occupied cities and villages of Ukraine under totalitarian conditions. Your support is critically important. As for financial assistance, it will be correct and timely to provide the necessary financial package for 2023 “, – said the President of Ukraine.
Zelensky also gave the flag of Ukraine to the US Congress from the defenders of Bakhmut. The head of state said that this flag is a symbol of Ukrainian victory.
“In this war, we are standing, we are fighting and we are winning, because we are united – Ukraine, America and the whole free world,” Zelensky said.
Zelensky noted that just as American soldiers fought against Hitler’s Nazi Germany in 1944, the Ukrainian military is doing the same to Putin’s troops.
The President said that Ukrainians will celebrate Christmas despite the brutality of the war, despite the fact that on Christmas Eve people will probably have to go to bomb shelters.
“In two days we will celebrate Christmas by lighting candles. Not because it is romantic, but because there is no electricity. Even without electricity, the light of our faith in ourselves does not fade,” assured of the head of state.
Note that the head of the White House assured Zelensky of further US support for Ukraine.
