The army depends on discipline, so strengthening responsibility is the right decision, believes the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valery Zaluzhny, supports the law on tougher punishments for military personnel. This was stated in a message on his Telegram channel, published on Monday, December 19.
“I support the relevant changes in the law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, and I ask the president to sign the law. My opinion clearly reflects the position of the commanders of the groups and military units that demanded of a systematic solution to this set of issues,” he said.
According to the military, the army is kept in discipline. In case the gaps in the law do not ensure its compliance, and the “refuseniks” can pay a fine, it is unfair.
Zaluzhny also noted that the exposed sections of the front are forced to occupy other military personnel, which leads to an increase in the loss of personnel, territory and civilians among them. Often lost positions have to be regained through offensive operations at very high cost.
He added that there is no threat of increased impunity for commanders, as they too bear full legal responsibility for their actions or inactions.
“Do I recognize the existence of problems that lead to voluntary departure? Yes, and I am working to eliminate them. And the successful operation to liberate the territories of our state is proof of this. I urge everyone to end this discussion. . And together bring victory closer,” he concluded with the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces.
As we have already written, the Ukrainian parliament allowed to test the military for alcohol and drugs anywhere and at any time, but asked the president to veto this law.
