The Pope promised to continue to support Ukraine, but acknowledged that the parties were not listening to him.
The war in Ukraine has reached global proportions and will not end quickly. This is what Pope Francis said in an interview with the Spanish newspaper ABC, published the previous day.
“I don’t see an end anytime soon because this is a global war. Let’s not forget it. There are many hands involved in the cauldron of war. It is global. I think a war begins when the empire begins to weaken . And when there are weapons to be used, testing and selling. There is a lot at stake,” he said, adding that what is happening now in Ukraine is “terrible.”
The Pope said he would continue to support Ukraine, but acknowledged that the parties were not listening to him.
“I receive everything here. Today Volodymyr Zelensky is sending me one of his spiritual advisers for the third time. I stay in touch, I receive them, I help,” added Francis.
Earlier, the Pope identified Russia as the aggressor in Ukraine, and also compared Putin’s Russia to Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany. He believes that history repeats itself.
