The chief commandant of the Polish police, Yaroslav Shimchik, received two anti-tank grenade launchers (probably RGW-90) in Ukraine, which, according to the Ukrainian side, were used.
The chief commander of the Polish police, Yaroslav Shimchik, who was hospitalized after the explosion of a grenade launcher donated to Ukraine, spoke for the first time about the details of the explosion at the police headquarters in Warsaw.
As RMF FM journalists found out from one of the members of the Polish delegation visiting Kyiv, General Shimchik received two anti-tank grenade launchers in Ukraine (probably RGW-90), which, according to the side of Ukrainian, was used.
The first gift came from the head of the National Police of Ukraine, Igor Klymenko. This is a used anti-tank grenade launcher fired at Russian tanks. It looks like a long tube, closed on both sides with polystyrene foam. Turned it into a speaker. Klymenko, one of the members of the delegation, said that the music was even turned on to show his work. The Ukrainians ensured that there were no explosive materials inside.
Later, the Polish police met with the head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, General Serhiy Kruk. After the meeting, Kruk’s representative, Dmitry Bondar, gave them a tour of the room where items neutralized by the service, including shells and mines, were collected.
At the end, saying goodbye, Bondar also gave Shimchik a gift – a tube similar to a grenade launcher. This one, however, was not converted into a speaker, but the Ukrainians made sure that the grenade launcher was used and safe. It can also be delivered without any paperwork and its value is the same as scrap.
According to the source, the delegation returned to Warsaw by car, and Szymczyk left the received gifts behind his office.
The head of the Polish police said that one day after returning from Ukraine, he wanted to transfer the gifts. As soon as he moved one of the grenade launchers vertically to the floor, literally a second later there was an explosion.
“The explosion was strong – the force of the impact fell on the floor and damaged the ceiling on the other side,” Shimchik said.
Military experts say such a grenade launcher cannot fire on its own – unless it is damaged. But it is also possible that the chief of police pressed some parts of the launch tube that have not been thoroughly examined.
Recall that on Thursday, the Ministry of the Interior of Poland reported that a “gift from Ukraine” exploded in the building of the Main Police Department. The ministry did not specify what kind of gift was in question. Due to the explosion at the Police Headquarters, the ceiling in one of the rooms on the ground floor collapsed. The upstairs area on the second floor was also damaged. A civilian worker of the department was also injured, but did not require hospitalization.
