The CIA believes that Russian President Putin mistakenly believes that he can continue the war for a long time without anyone stopping him.
The head of the US Central Intelligence Agency, William Burns, believes that at the moment of the war in Ukraine, Russia is not in the mood for real negotiations.
“Most conflicts end in negotiations, but this requires seriousness on the part of the Russians, which, I think, in this case, we do not see. At least we do not believe that the Russians are currently serious about in real negotiations,” Burns said in an interview with PBS.
At the same time, the head of the CIA took into account Russian President Putin’s belief that he could continue the war for a long time and that nothing could stop him from making mistakes.
“I think he was wrong in making this bet, just as he was wrong, deeply wrong in making the bet on February 24, when he started this war,” Burns said.
He noted that the Russian military is now “severely beaten”, and the Ukrainian military is determined to keep up the pressure and build on battlefield gains.
At the same time, he stressed that Ukrainians also need time to re-equip and re-supply.
It will be remembered that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that negotiations with the Kremlin are necessary to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
