Ukraine will develop solutions to improve the level of protection of nuclear facilities from threats of military aggression and rocket attacks.
Ukraine intends to develop nuclear energy, but new units will be built taking into account the risks and military threats. This was said by the head of the Ministry of Energy German Galushchenko during the test launch of a pumping station at one of the Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
According to Galushchenko, Ukraine will strategically focus on further development and increase in the amount of nuclear generation.
“Of course, we will develop nuclear energy, build new units. But today the issue of security of energy facilities is acute. When building nuclear power plants, no one previously considered the possibility of an attack of the military. Russia’s war against Ukraine, the occupation and shelling of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant showed that the future development of the nuclear energy sector must take into account military threats, and the Ukraine will develop solutions to increase the level of protection of nuclear facilities from threats of military aggression and rocket attacks,” the minister emphasized.
He thanked nuclear scientists for finding ways to improve the stability of energy supply even in difficult conditions. Galushchenko noted that the early completion of repairs and the launch of two power station units in the system made it possible to significantly reduce the amount of power outages for consumers, provoked by Russia’s ongoing shelling .
A few days earlier, the Ministry of Energy announced the launch of another power unit after renewal repair.
It will be recalled that on December 11, a thousand-strong VVER-1000 power unit of one of the nuclear power plants was reconnected to the Ukrainian power grid. It is turned off due to the need to remove the sentence of the current backup protection transformer.
