Athens set a condition for the transfer of Soviet-style weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine: Patriot systems must be deployed in Crete.
Greece is considering the possibility of transferring the S-300 air defense system to Ukraine. This is what the Minister of National Defense of Greece, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, said, according to ProNews on Friday, December 16.
The Greek government agrees to transfer these weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the event that the American Patriot air defense and missile defense systems are installed on the island of Crete.
“If the United States deploys a Patriot system on the island, then after its integration with the national S-300 air defense system, it can be removed. The same process applies to any other Russian-made air defense system which can be sent to Ukraine,” the official explained the state’s position.
Official Athens also does not exclude the possibility of moving to Kyiv, in addition to the S-300, Tor-M1 and Osa complexes.
It should be noted that the head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov thanked the head of the German defense department Christina Lambrecht for “new opportunities” for Ukraine.
As we have already reported, the United States, along with other partners of Ukraine, continues to seek Soviet-standard weapons for Ukrainian fighters. One of the countries that will help Ukraine is Cyprus.
